Red card

A red card sends a player off for serious foul play, violent conduct, denying an obvious goal-scoring opportunity, or a second caution.

When a player is sent off, they must leave the field immediately and cannot take further part in the match. The team usually continues with one fewer player and cannot add a replacement for the dismissed player.

Team B's striker breaks clear toward goal with only the goalkeeper ahead. Team A's defender grabs the striker's shirt outside the penalty area. The referee shows a red card for denying an obvious scoring chance and awards a free kick.
