Offside

A player can be offside when they are ahead of the ball and the second-last opponent at the moment a teammate plays the ball, and they then become involved in active play.

Offside is judged at the instant the ball is played by a teammate, not when the player receives it. The attacking player must be in the opponent's half and nearer to the goal line than both the ball and the second-last defender (usually including the goalkeeper).

Team A's striker runs behind Team B's defence. As the pass is played, the striker is closer to Team B's goal than the last outfield defender while the goalkeeper stays on the line. If the striker runs onto the pass and shoots, the flag goes up for offside.
