Match duration

A standard adult match lasts two equal halves with a half-time break; youth, futsal, and competition rules can shorten or extend that format.

Most 11-a-side games use two halves of 45 minutes each, separated by a short half-time interval. The clock counts up and is kept by the referee; it is not stopped every time the ball goes out unless local rules say otherwise.

Team A and Team B play a league fixture scheduled for 90 minutes plus stoppage time. The referee blows for half-time after about 45 minutes of play plus any time lost to injuries in the first half.
