Handball

Handball offences involve deliberately handling the ball or making the body unnaturally bigger with the arm or hand in certain situations.

Not every ball-to-arm contact is a foul. The laws focus on deliberate handling and on arm positions that are not justified by the player's movement—especially when the arms are extended away from the body or above shoulder height.

Team A's midfielder drives a shot from close range. Team B's defender turns and the ball strikes their raised forearm away from the body. The referee awards a penalty for handball in the box.
