Free kick

Free kicks restart play after fouls or other offences; direct kicks may score straight from the kick, indirect kicks require another touch first.

After a foul or handball, the referee awards a free kick to the non-offending team from where the offence occurred, unless special placement rules apply inside the penalty area.

Team B commits a tactical foul on the edge of the area. Team A sets up a direct free kick. The taker curls the ball over the wall and into the net—the goal stands if the kick was taken correctly.
